Ethel “Marcella” Gulley entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Ripley Crossing, in Milan, Indiana. Marcella was born Friday, July 24, 1925 on the family farmstead in Sagamaw, near Dillsboro, Indiana. Her parents were Dora Jane Heffelmire and Lawrence Heffelmire who preceded her in death as well as her sister Gladys Nolte and brother John Heffelmire. She has one living brother Ronald (Eileen) Heffelmire of Dillsboro. Marcella graduated in 1943 from Dillsboro High School and married Denver Gulley in 1945. Marcella was a member of Eastern Star and a United Methodist Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. Marcella and Denver have two surviving daughters, Tanya Marie Hack of Fort Wayne, and Anya Jane Cutter of Columbus. Marcella would tell you that her greatest accomplishment was raising her two daughters in a Christian environment and sending them to college. Marcella spent her work life at Seagrams where she retired at age 60. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jayson Cutter, Jennie Jane (Steve) Harvey, Sarah (Eric) Lanan and Elizabeth (Ian) Thomas. She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and acquaintances. She was a devout follower of Christ and a true friend to many. In her last years as Alzheimer’s stole her memory, it never touched her loving spirit of others. She showed her love of Christ through her actions with a touch or kind words. Services will be 11:30 AM Saturday, December 14 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro with Pastor Charles Miller officiating. Visitation will be 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM also at the funeral home. Private burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Women Fellowship at Dillsboro.
