Joseph "Joe" Barrett Obituary

            Joseph “Joe” Arthur Barrett, 93, of Moores Hill passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at his daughter’s residence in Moores Hill with family by his side.  Joe was born Saturday, December 18, 1926 in Berea, Kentucky, the son of the late Arthur and Bertha (Powell) Barrett.  He married Elizabeth Sandlen on August 27, 1949 and she preceded him in death on January 8, 1994.  Joe was self-employed, working as a carpenter in Mason.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.  Joe enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, and spending time with his family.

            Joe is survived by his sons Robert (Frances) Barrett of Bedford and Michael Barrett of Morgantown; daughters Carolyn Smith of Greendale, Dorothy Marie Evans of Aurora, and Elaine Faye (Danny) Cornn of Moores Hill; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother Delbert Barrett of Ohio; and sisters Dorothy Geisler of Ohio, Geraldine Houston of Indiana, Delora Lykins of Florida, and Lucinda Rogers of Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Bertha; wife Elizabeth; brothers Oscar, Jessie, Arnold, and Lloyd Barrett; and sisters Ola Mehring and Fannie Smith.

            A service celebrating his life will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, May 27 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastor Doug Norman officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, with full military rites provided by Moores Hill American Legion Post #209.  Family and friends may gather to share and remember him 11 AM - 1 PM Wednesday, May 27 also at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given in honor of Joe to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the donor’s choice.  Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements, 707 South Main Street, Box 243, Milan, IN 47031, (812) 654-2141.  You may go to www.lawscarrmoore.com to leave an online condolence message or memory of Joe for the family.
