Ronald "Ron" Lee Goodpaster

       Ronald “Ron” Lee Goodpaster, 80, of Dillsboro passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. Ron was born on November 25, 1942 in Milan; son of Carl and Muriel (Eaglin) Goodpaster. Ron married the love of his life, Linda (Transier) Goodpaster, on September 19, 1964 and she survives. Ron proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant. Ron worked at the Aurora Post Office for 25 years and was the Postmaster for 10 years there as well. He was also employed at Seagrams for 10 years prior to working at the post office. During his retirement he also drove for Catch-A-Ride. He was a member of the American Legion Northcutt-Laaker Post 292, Aurora VFW Post #2629, Disabled American Veterans, and was also a Founding Father of Chapter 71 Vietnam Veterans of America. Ron was a former member of the Aurora Lions Club where he was a past president and was also on the Farmers Fair Board. Ron enjoyed traveling, antiquing, antique cars, and being involved in many service organizations. Ron most of all cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

       Ron will be missed by his loving wife, Linda Goodpaster of Dillsboro; daughters Regina (Reid) Hensley of Greendale and Rhonda (Richard Butler) Goodpaster of Greendale; brothers Robert Goodpaster of Dillsboro and Kenneth (Vedenna) Goodpaster of Aurora; sisters Janet Oak of Dillsboro and Kay (Jim) Scott of Aurora; grandchildren Kayla Hensley, Logan Hensley, Grant Hensley, Gabriel Hensley, Jessica (Nathan Straessle) Butler, Jonas (Danielle) Butler, and Celia Butler; and great-grandchildren Stella Straessle and Graham Straessle.

       Ron was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Muriel Goodpaster and sister Maryettta McClellan.

       Family and friends may gather in remembering Ron from 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Military rites will be provided by The American Legion Northcutt-Laaker Post 292, Vietnam Veterans and South Eastern Indiana Honor Guard. A service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM with DJ Gilliland officiating. Memorials may be given in honor of Ron to Vietnam Veterans or Cancer Fund.
